Description
The intern will gain practical experience in setting up a school library, compiling a database of all of the books, cataloguing books and organising a system to facilitate easy access to borrowing books. They will be involved in the development of a literacy policy. The Intern will receive formal/informal training in the following : using the facility admin computer package, setting up a library with assistance and advice from the Senior Librarian in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Library service; Developing strategies to encourage reluctant readers to use the library. Development of a literacy policy. On completion the intern will have attained skills in setting up and running a library, cataloging books and resources, dealing with students and staff, setting up systems to run a library efficiently.

Interested in books and encouraging others to read, organised, creative, friendly. Good interpersonal skills. Energetic.
School Librarian in Greenane/Kenmare
Description
The intern will gain practical experience in running a new school library. Supervising library usage throughout the school day. Running library programme for all levels. The training will be provided informally and will be delivered by the current school librarian.Other skills will be acquired from the professional bodies associated with school libraries.
Skills Requirements
Good administrative skills as well as the ability to supervise teenagers in the library. A high level of initiative is expected in this position.

Description
The intern will gain practical experience in cataloguing and classifying antiquarian and modern publications and using library management software. They will also gain experience in assessing and prioritising the preservation and conservation needs of the collections. The Intern will receive formal/informal training in the following cataloguing and classifying antiquarian and modern publications and using library management software. On completion the intern will have attained skills in IT, team working, cataloguing skills and public engagement skills while completing this role.
Skills Requirements
Knowledge of library cataloguing practices and the Dewey Decimal Classification System. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Self-starter with high motivation and the ability to work flexibly. Proven organisational capability and high levels of personal effectiveness. Strong intellectual, analytical and thinking skills. Strong IT capability, familiarity with library cataloguing programmes, especially KOHA, an advantage.
