Living in Laos
Its fascinating living in a country so removed from where you originally grew up. Having moved to Vientiane, Laos at the end of July 2016 I found myself in a city of temples and monks. And it is just glorious.
I travel to work every day with a big smile on my face because I love the lifestyle here. Its so slow paced, no one rushes to do anything and it just happens I have the best job in the world too.
Unlike my last school and awful experience in China, this school in Vientiane is just wonderful. The teachers I work with are awesome, the students are amazing and the school properly looks after its teachers. They care about you.
I arrive in work most days at 7.30am and I am happy to stay in school till close to 5pm. I am frantically busy. I love my job and I don't think I have dreaded going into work once. How many people honestly get to say that?
Over a 5 week period I conducted 5 workshops for parents which ranged from what the VIS library does, to searching and evaluating information and being safe online. Now I am busily planning World Book Day on March 2nd for the primary school. It was met with resistance which I was quite surprised about. The primary teachers were not too enthused about the spelling bee or the book battle I was suggesting so they have been scrapped. Instead we are trying to organise authors and storytellers to come into the classrooms and engage the students in reading, there will be a character parade and a Where's Wally search in the library.
So lots to do and get excited by! I have a fantastic budget to work off too which enables me to do so much. In another way I am so looking forward to starting year 2 and knowing so much more and having completed a year behind me. I feel confident already and am excited for the future especially as I look into getting more certificates and exploring the avenues of EdTech which is just so on trend right now.
2017 you are looking fairly gorgeous and I may be awful at keeping a blog and trying to update this every 18 months or so, so I'll try and do a bit better this year. No guarantees though!
